Mantel FAQs

For over 20 years, mantels have been one of our most popular products.

Here at Woodstock we take beams reclaimed from old barns and buildings and turn them into unique, ready-to-hang mantels. Whether a family is looking for something square and smooth, or rustic with a rounded front, we have hundreds of beams on our yard in a variety of sizes and styles.

Because the popularity of our mantels, we rounded some of the most common questions we get!

How do you install one of your mantels?

Most people float our mantels using lag bolts! If done correctly, lag bolts should have the ability to mount even our heaviest beams.

Where does the wood come from?

Most of our mantel beams are reclaimed from barns in Tennessee and Kentucky. Once we receive the beams, they are cleaned, de-nailed and sanded. Then, we custom cut and stain them!

What size mantels do you have in stock?

We have tons of beams in all shapes, sizes and species!

In general, however, our solid mantel beams are typically between 4-7ā€ thick, 7-12ā€ deep and anywhere between 5-10ā€™ long.

What is the turnaround time?

If you pick a beam that we have already sanded and stained, we can cut it down to the size you need while you wait. If we are working on a custom mantel for you (you pick the beam that we then cut down and custom stain), turnaround time is typically 2 business days.

Can you make corbels?

Yes, we can make matching corbels to go with your mantel. Keep in mind that our corbels, however, are mostly decorative (as opposed to supportive).

Can I finish the beam myself?

Yes. If you would like to stain the beam yourself, we can sell you an unfinished beam.

Iā€™m worried about weight. Can you make a hollow mantel?

Yes, we build box mantels to custom specs! Get in touch with us for more info.
